areas of focus for these groups -- learning about the Bible and God and
developing a closer relationship with God; being in service and mission;
and having fun together in a Christian environment. Sunday School is at

MUSIC
MINISTRY
Music has
always been an integral part of the worship experience at University United
Methodist Church. The chancel choir has developed a tradition of
excellence over the past 25 years or more that is known throughout the
city. Members of the choir are all volunteer and come from diverse
backgrounds and vocations. College students, engineers, business men and
women, mechanics, teachers, and retirees all call the choir their own and
work hard to bring the congregation anthems and service music that will be
uplifting and inspirational. The choir selects its literature from
traditional anthems and choral works, spirituals, gospel and contemporary
anthems, with an emphasis on quality music performed at a high level.
Throughout the year they also offer special musical performances, usually
during the Christmas Season and Passion Week/Easter. Such major works
performed over the past several years include; Benjamin Britten's Ceremony
of Carols with harp, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with
Orchestra, John Rutter's Requiem and Gloria, Major portions of the Handel
Messiah, Vivaldi's Gloria and numerous others. Members of the choir feel
strongly about their love of singing and their ministry of bringing that
love to the congregation through the performance of great choral
literature.
There is an outstanding Children's Choir at University United Methodist
Church. Children from Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in a
musical program that teaches them the basics of music including rhythm,
harmony, and melody while preparing them for performances each month, to
the delight of the congregation. The children, led by their director Ricki
Emery, sing songs of the faith, play rhythm instruments, and accompany
themselves on assorted bells, marimbas and keyboard instruments. Many of
the children themselves study piano and/or other instruments at home and
in school adding to their enjoyment of the choir experience. |

SPROUTS
Sprouts is
an accountable discipleship group for children in the 3rd - 5th
grades seeking to witness for Jesus Christ through works of caring and
faith. The children covenant together to practice Acts of Kindness, Acts
of Justice, Acts of Devotion, and Acts of Worship and to encourage and
watch over one another in love.
Two 6-8
week sessions are offered each year. Time is 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Contact Kara Kuehnel.
"The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter
seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed
would sprout and grow." Mark 4:26-28. |
