There are three main areas of focus for these groups -- learning about the Bible and God and developing a closer relationship with God; being in service and mission; and having fun together in a Christian environment. Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, youth group is at 4:00 p.m. each Sunday and recreation time on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. All youth are invited to grow, serve and fellowship with us. For more information about the youth program, visit our Youth section of the website.

Music has always been an integral part of the worship experience at University United Methodist Church. The chancel choir has developed a tradition of excellence over the past 25 years or more that is known throughout the city. Members of the choir are all volunteer and come from diverse backgrounds and vocations. College students, engineers, business men and women, mechanics, teachers, and retirees all call the choir their own and work hard to bring the congregation anthems and service music that will be uplifting and inspirational. The choir selects its literature from traditional anthems and choral works, spirituals, gospel and contemporary anthems, with an emphasis on quality music performed at a high level. Throughout the year they also offer special musical performances, usually during the Christmas Season and Passion Week/Easter. Such major works performed over the past several years include; Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols with harp, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with Orchestra, John Rutter's Requiem and Gloria, Major portions of the Handel Messiah, Vivaldi's Gloria and numerous others. Members of the choir feel strongly about their love of singing and their ministry of bringing that love to the congregation through the performance of great choral literature.

There is an outstanding Children's Choir at University United Methodist Church. Children from Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in a musical program that teaches them the basics of music including rhythm, harmony, and melody while preparing them for performances each month, to the delight of the congregation. The children, led by their director Ricki Emery, sing songs of the faith, play rhythm instruments, and accompany themselves on assorted bells, marimbas and keyboard instruments. Many of the children themselves study piano and/or other instruments at home and in school adding to their enjoyment of the choir experience.

Sprouts is an accountable discipleship group for children in the 3rd - 5th grades seeking to witness for Jesus Christ through works of caring and faith. The children covenant together to practice Acts of Kindness, Acts of Justice, Acts of Devotion, and Acts of Worship and to encourage and watch over one another in love.

Two 6-8 week sessions are offered each year. Time is 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. Contact the church office.

"The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow."  Mark 4:26-28.

Every Tuesday at noon, a book group meets in the church library. Short story anthologies are used for study with a lively discussion offering fresh insights to the various members of the group.

University United Methodist Women (UUMW) is a supportive fellowship group of women who seek to know Jesus, grow spiritually, and seek God's will for their lives. They plan programs and projects which encourage members to experience God and further the mission of the church. They support local and global mission needs with contributions of money, time, and talents and strive to educate themselves on both church and society. They have both daytime and evening programs as well as morning, afternoon, and evening circle meetings.

The Prayer Chain is a special ministry of University United Methodist Women. It is composed of a supportive network of women who act as prayer warriors for the special needs of members, their families, friends, co-workers, etc. Prayer requests may be made for concerns and joys. Requests may be made at any time.

For a prayer request, please call the church office at 686-6765. The prayer chain is updated weekly via phone and email.

The church library offers a wide variety of books for all ages on a variety of topics, including biblical scholarship, theology, popular fiction and nonfiction.

Books and videos are a great way to nurture your soul and broaden the boundaries of your world.

University Church M&Ms are a group of "mature adults" -- mostly retired -- who meet the third Thursday of each month for a potluck lunch and program. They meet at noon for lunch with the program starting at 1:00 p.m. and lasting about an hour. All "mature Methodists" are invited to join this fun group. Just bring a dish to share and your table service. The food is great, the fellowship fantastic and the programs interesting.

The fourth Sunday of each month is "Food Drive" Sunday for United Methodist Urban Ministry (UMUM).

The fourth Sunday of each month, immediately after church, worshipers are invited to Fellowship Hall for Coffee Fellowship. Coffee Fellowships give members and visitors a chance to get acquainted.

Biscuit Breakfast is the first and third Sunday of each month at 8:15 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. This a good time to nourish your body with good food and enrich your UUMC friendships.

A donation is accepted to support youth attending summer conference camping.

Church members and friends in the fifty-plus age group are invited to try the UUMC physical fitness program which meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. for an hour. It is especially designed for the mature adult who wants to increase flexibility, strength and balance. The music of our exercise video program is energizing, the folks are friendly, and the workouts are fun and good for you.

The church office is located in the Education Building, Room 202.

The Church Office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 686-6765 or email with any questions.
